The Last of the Furniture to be (re)Finished!

As I mentioned before, the nightstands and all the drawers are done - sanded, primed, and painted!  We just needed to finish the chest of drawers and the dresser (minus the drawers for both).  Both pieces were already sanded...

On Tuesday (October 23rd), I was over at my parents' house before my graduate class at PSU Harrisburg and had a bit of extra time.  I decided to get a bit of a start on the furniture...  I remembered to take "before" pictures this time!  So let's start with them....

Before my night class, I have about 2 1/2 hours at my parents house and, somewhere in that time, I need to eat dinner.  I would have loved to get both coats of primer done, but I just didn't have the time.  I did, however, get one coat of primer done.  It was much harder to prime these large pieces than the smaller pieces.  It was harder to get a nice thin coat because you needed to do such long strokes (especially on the sides of the chest of drawers and on the top of dresser).  I did my best to do a thin coat but it was certainly more time-consuming and frustrating than the nightstands and drawers were.  On the bonus, though, there isn't any "inside" that needs done, like the open shelf of the nightstands!  The open shelf of the nightstand was so difficult to paint because we couldn't see well and we kept hitting the opposite end of the brush because the brush was longer than the height of the open area!  Let's show the progress up to this point...

On Wednesday, October 24th, after we completed settlement on the house!, we went over to my parents' for a few reasons: 1) we needed to get a bedframe at Sam's Club and they have a membership, 2) we needed to borrow painting supplies from my dad, and 3) we wanted to get the second coat of primer on the furniture!  The first coat took me (alone) about an hour and a half or even a bit longer.  Aaron and I managed to get both pieces done in about 50 minutes.  Two workers is much nicer than working alone... Just sayin'!  Let's show the furniture now - all primed and ready for paint....

On Saturday, November 3rd, Aaron and I went over to work on painting the furniture remaining.  We were staining the balcony boards in the morning and headed over to my parents mid-morning.  We managed to get three coats done...

I failed to take a picture after the 3rd coat so you'll just have to imagine what that looked like...

On Sunday, November 4th, Aaron and I went back over to my parents with the intention of finishing the furniture.  I had schoolwork to do and just didn't want to waste time painting so Aaron stepped up and did the fourth coat by himself.  After he finished, we ended up working on the hardware (the pulls and handles for the drawers).  Next thing we knew, it was time for dinner, and when we returned from dinner, we didn't feel like doing the last coat of paint...  By here's how it looked like after the weekend...

Finally, Aaron and I got to put the last coat of paint on the furniture last night - Wednesday, November 7th.  I stopped at Home Depot after school for another can of spray paint, picked up the dogs, and headed over to my parents.  Aaron came directly from work.  We got to work on the last coat, making sure we took our time and got a really nice coat on everything.  I can now show you the finished product!  (But you have to imagine the drawers in place and the hardware on the drawers... You'll see the assembled finished product soon enough!
