Rugs
We officially ordered the rugs that I mentioned last Wednesday (October 10th). As a reminder, the pictures of the rugs are below! The left one is the one for the dining room. The dining room rug was ordered through Overstock.com; the tracking information says it arrived in Harrisburg on Sunday and it is scheduled to be delivered by the end of the day today! Yay! The one on the right is the living room rug. The living room rug was ordered throught HomeDepot.com; the tracking information just says that a shipping label is created but it hasn't arrived at the UPS facility yet so I don't know when that will be delivered. I'm more anxious to see the living room rug because I'm questioning the color a bit and need to see it in person - I'm hoping it's more beige and not too gray!
Mattress
I mentioned before that we found a mattress at SamsClub.com that we liked; it is only $499 and the shipping is free! We haven't ordered it yet, but I hope to take care of that tonight! (Mental note - still need to find out whether Aaron wants the regular set which has a combined height of 19.5" or the low-profile set which was a combined height of 16.25". Aaron, keep in mind that the bed frame will had 6" or so in height.) I plan to get the bed frame in the store because I'd have to pay shipping on that; not to mention, a bed frame is a bit more manageable to carry out of the store!
Refinishing Furniture
I owe you another refinishing furniture post... I will get on that! But for now, I'll just mention that we finished all the sanding this past Saturday (October 13)! The weekend before that we had gotten everything done except the dresser itself (even the dresser drawers were done). On Tuesday, I was at my parents before my graduate class at Penn State Harrisburg (which is near their house) and I managed to get the top of the dresser done. This Saturday we worked hard to get everything finished! The sides of the dresser were really hard because we couldn't put the dresser on end (it would be too high), so Aaron had to sand both sides while they were vertical. What a pain! Anyway, after all the sanding was done, we used my dad's air compressor to blow all the saw dust away and then used rags to wipe it all down. Next up is priming and painting!
Craigslist
When I last talked about Craigslist, we still had the DVD/VHS player, the desk, and the weight bench. We finally got someone to come for the DVD/VHS player - it turns out she needed it for her grandson to watch his Barney videos! She came for it on Friday (October 12) and we got the full $25 for it. As for the desk, we dropped the price but still had no interest; Aaron decided to break it down and put it out for the trash. We figured we wouldn't get much for it anyway... And we finally got someone to come for the weight bench! I can't tell you how many people expressed interest but never came or said they would come and then either didn't show or made an excuse. A guy came for it last Wednesday (October 10); it made me a bit nervous because he came when I was alone (I know, I know - generally a bad idea), but it all went fine. He paid the full $75 for the bench! That means we got $225 for the bench and weights which means we didn't end up losing much on that stuff! Yay! Also, we put a full-size bedframe with headboard and footboard up on Craiglist. I only asked $10 for it. A lady contacted me and said she'd come for it Saturday morning. In the meantime, another lady contacted me with interest. Guess what? This time, I knew the person contacting me! That's the first time that happened! Anyway, the first lady didn't show up so I called the person I knew and she came and picked it up yesterday! So, as of now, we have sold all our Craigslist items! We also sold our current couch and loveseat (complete with couch covers) to Beth - these would have gone up on Craigslist but Beth wanted first dibs and she decided to take them. (They are quite comfy!)
Other Stuff to Buy
We keep talking about a console table and even found one that we liked at Christmas Tree Shops but we haven't made a purchase. We really need to get on this if we want the one at Chistmas Tree Shops! I also think we need an ottoman tray so that we can get double the use out of the ottoman as both a footrest and a quasi-coffee table! We didn't order one of these yet and I'm not sure what I like better... Option #1: A bamboo ottoman tray, like this one on Amazon.com that is only $15.12 with free Prime shipping. (But, eeekkk, it's the last one in stock and I'm not sure if that price will last when more come in stock!) Bonus: it's ready to go and doesn't require any work!
Option #2: A plain wooden tray, like this pine one on Amazon.com that is only $13.10 with free Prime shipping. While this one requires a bit of work to paint it, it could look really cool when it's done!
The reason that "Option #2" holds so much appeal is because I could paint it to match our stuff. The bad part is that I'm not that crafty or artistic! However, birds are easy to paint and I'm sure I could do some kind of stencil/tracing whatever. I found the tray below on Etsy.com (listing available here) - I don't want those colors but something similiar could work and I could totally (probably) do that!
Well, off to do some more schoolwork!
