So I've decided to start reviewing things I see on Pinterest. I can't guarantee this will be a weekly installment or anything, but I will certainly promise to share any experiences I have with Pinterest pins! With that in mind, I decided to try a tub cleaner I saw. The link to the original source is here. The directions looked easy and I didn't need much.... With the purchase of three things, I was ready to go!
Let's start with some "Before" pictures of the tub. No judgments please! We don't use it often and I don't know why we ended up with such a terrible water line. I had tried regular cleaners and didn't have any luck with Scrubbing Bubbles Bathroom Cleaner or Lysol Tile & Bath.
Miracle Tub CleanerNeeded:
- Dawn Blue dish soap
- Distilled white vinegar
Directions to Prepare:
1) Measure vinegar and heat in the microwave until hot. (You will use equal parts of vinegar and dish soap, so it doesn't really matter how much you decide to do. I did 1/2 cup. It took about 90 seconds to heat it.) Add to squirt bottle.
2) Measure an equal amount of Dawn blue dish soap - everyone is very clear that you should not substitute another dish soap. Add to the squirt bottle. Mix gently.
Directions to Use:1) Spray generously all over the shower and tub. Concentrate on areas that you can see the soap scum or water marks.
2) Wait. (I waited about an hour and that was plenty for me - some people mentioned that they left it overnight for really dirty spaces.)
3) Wipe it all down with a dry rag. (I used some old hand towels. I did find that it took a few towels because the cleaner is thick.)
4) Rinse away any left-over cleaner.
That's it... It's quite easy!
My observations: 1) Do not wet the rag you use to wipe the cleaner away - the dish soap will get very sudsy! 2) The smell is very over-powering so use your fan in the bathroom, open windows (if you have any), and make sure to get some fresh air! 3) It doesn't take much - it's hard to see but I just sprayed a thin layer all over and used the entire amount I mixed up (so about a cup total).
So the big question: How did it fare? I give it an A! For proof, check out my "After" pictures below!
If would have gotten an A+, but if you look really close, you can still see the hint of the water stain on the right side of the tub (the right side if you are standing in the tub and facing the faucet). However, it's hard to really appreciate, but the fixtures are very bright and shiny now. Almost the entire water stain is gone and the cleaner has clearly out-performed some of the commercial products that I have tried!
Conclusion: I would absolutely recommend this to anyone and I will use it again - but I will be sure to have plenty of ventilation!
Good luck and happy cleaning!
