Rug-a-dub-dub

Our lovely future (hopefully) house has beautiful wood floors...  However, wood floors have some disadvantages - they can get scratched up and they can be cold in the winter.  Both those problems can be solved with a few rugs!

Thus, we need to get some rugs.  I had some mental images as to what I wanted.  I just needed know how expensive rugs are or how difficult it would be to find ones that we both liked!  I was looking at rugs at Surya.com because the salesman at Just Cabinets said they carried the entire Surya line.  I was delighted by some of the rugs I found! They were really nice and there were some many different patterns... I was in rug heaven!  Below are some options I liked - the first two were for the dining room and the third was for the living room.

However, if you noticed, I was using all past tense... for good reason!  When we stopped back at Just Cabinets, I asked about the prices for the rugs.  The salesman told us that it depends on size of the rug as well as the individual style but that they start at $300.  Yes, you read that right! $300 for one rug!  No thank you!

It was time to start searching elsewhere... I searched Overstock.com, JCP.com, Kohls.com, Lowes.com, HomeDepot.com, Amazon.com, Sear.com, Target.com, Walmart.com, and SamsClub.com.  We needed to find two rugs...

First, we needed a rug in the dining room for under the table to prevent the chairs from scratching the floor; that rug would need to be larger than 5' by 7'.  We wanted something with a bit of yellow or tan in it to match the upholestry on the dining room chairs we currently have; also, a bit of blue would be nice to tie in the blue trim color that the previous owners used and a bit of red, though not necessary but certainly appreciated, would tie in the brick of the fireplace.  Now I realize that is a lot of "wants" but I'm flexible... After lots of searching, we found the winner at Overstock.com:

The rug is beige with hints of brown that will tie in the yellow-ish beige of the seat cushions and the dark wood of the chairs.

The blue squares will tie in the blue trim nicely.  It is not the exact shade of the trim, but that's just find to me - most blues match each other.  Moreover, the blue in this rug has a hint of gray to it and I detect a hint of gray in the trim as well.

Finally, the rug even has some brick red in it which will tie in the fireplace!  That makes us three for three in the "want" column!

After finding a winner for the dining room (which we haven't quite ordered yet), we needed to find our second rug.  We wanted to get a rug for the living room so that your feet wouldn't be on cold wood floors when you're sitting on the couch during the winter.  Here, we knew that we needed a rug that was at least 5' by 6' and could be much bigger than that.  The rug would need to be a suble pattern or a solid color because we are already have the bird fabric on the chair and on the pillows.  After a lot of searching, we found the final two options, both from Home Depot.

The first was the Artistic Weavers Himalaya Beige Polyester 5 ft. x 8 ft. Area Rug for only $115.20.
The light tan background would be good because it's so neutral.  The darker brown color is very close (at least as it appears online) to the body color of our sectional.  The darker brown color is just used for the outlining of the leaves so it was sufficiently subtle even though it was a high contrast between the colors.  Finally, I love trees... And, therefore, I love leaves and this pattern would go great with the bird fabric of the chair and pillows (which was tree branches in it).

The other was the Home Dynamix Bazaar Fre HD3130-Gray-Beige 5 ft. 2 in. x 7 ft. 2 in. Area Rug for only $129.00. The color is listed as gray-beige but it looks mainly beige to me.  I displayed the rug next to the online picture of the sectional in the right body color and it looked like it matched well to me.  Unfortunately, we tried to go to the local Home Depot that said it had the rug in stock, but the store employee wasn't able to find it.  I really wanted to see how it would look in person and see if it wasn't too "gray."  The pattern was nice and subtle due to the low contrast between the colors.  Finally, the vine/branch/leaves pattern fits my nature theme!

However, our choice was made easier because the first rug is out of stock online and not available in stores.   As I mentioned, we tried to see the second rug in the store and couldn't, but luckily there is a 90-day return policy if we order online.  So, the plan is to order it and return it if we don't like it.  Hey, at least it's free shipping too... Here's to hoping everything with the house works out and then we'll actually go ahead and order the rugs!
